How to connect Muggle devices

You can connect your wand to different Muggle devices using the Harry Potter: Magic Caster Wand mobile app.

Note  Connecting to smart devices (e.g. smart lights) isn't available with child accounts.

Before you continue, be sure to set up your Magic Caster Wand.

What would you like to connect?

Connect your wand

Here's how to connect your wand:

  1. Move your wand within a metre of you (about 3 feet).
  2. Open the Magic Caster Wand mobile app.
    A Wand connected icon (green circle with wand) at the top of the screen means your wand is connected. A Wand disconnected icon (red triangle with wand) means your wand is disconnected.
  3. Choose the Devices icon (light bulb) and then choose Wand.
  4. If your wand is listed, choose Connect.
    If another wand or no wand is connected, choose Connect New Wand to set up your Magic Caster Wand.
    More than one wand?  Make sure the wand you're trying to connect is the closest to your phone or tablet when you choose Connect.
  5. Once connected, your wand will light blue and vibrate.
Wand pairing tip
If your wand isn't pairing, tap the Devices icon (light bulb) and then Connect New Wand. Now hold your wand toward the top and tap Press Here to Pair to try again.

Can't connect?  If you can't connect to your wand, make sure Bluetooth is turned on. If this doesn't help, go to Can't connect my Magic Caster Wand.

Connect your wand box
  1. Move to the same room as your wand box (within 3 metres or 10 feet).
  2. Take the lid off your wand box to wake it up.
  3. Open the Magic Caster Wand mobile app, choose the Devices icon (light bulb) and then choose Wand.
  4. Choose Connect (if available). Or, if your wand is connected and your wand box is not, choose Disconnect and then Connect.
    If your wand isn't listed, choose Connect New Wand to set up your Magic Caster Wand.
  5. If your wand isn't listed, choose Connect New Wand to set up your Magic Caster Wand.
  6. Once connected, cast a spell.
Connect your TV device

Here's how to connect your Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV Cube:

  1. Install the Magic Caster Wand TV Casting app on your Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV Cube.
  2. Open the Magic Caster Wand TV Casting app.
  3. Open the Magic Caster Wand mobile app.
  4. Cast a spell.

Special video payoffs and magical effects play on your TV.

Try casting these spells:

  • Expecto Patronum: An animation of your Patronus animal appears on your TV.
  • Incendio: An animated fireplace appears on your TV.
  • Meteolojinx: A thunderstorm appears on your TV.
Mobile app required
The Magic Caster Wand TV Casting app requires that you have the Magic Caster Wand mobile app open on your phone or tablet.

Can't connect?  Make sure your TV and the device with the Magic Caster Wand mobile app are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network. For more troubleshooting tips, visit Troubleshoot the Magic Caster Wand app.

Connect your Bluetooth speakers

Here's how to connect your Bluetooth speakers:

  1. In the Magic Caster Wand mobile app, choose the Devices icon (light bulb).
  2. Choose Speakers.
  3. Select your Bluetooth speaker.
    If it's not listed, choose Connect Speakers > Bluetooth Settings and then your Bluetooth speaker.
  4. Cast a spell.

The audio from the Magic Caster Wand mobile app plays on your Bluetooth speaker.

Not connecting?  Make sure you've turned on Bluetooth on your mobile device. You can also connect your wand from your device's Bluetooth settings.

Connect your smart lights and plugs

Here's how to connect your smart lights and plugs:

LIFX

Before you begin, you'll need a LIFX Colour smart bulb.

  1. Use the LIFX iOS app or Android app to set up your LIFX smart lights. To learn more, go to LIFX Light Setup.
  2. In the Magic Caster Wand mobile app, choose the Devices icon (light bulb).
  3. Choose Lights.
  4. Choose Connect Smart Lights.
  5. Choose the smart light found on your network. Or choose Set Up Manually and then choose LIFX.
  6. Choose OK and then sign in to your LIFX account.
  7. Choose Authorize to give the Magic Caster Wand app access.
  8. Select the groups of lights that you'd like to add and then choose Add Lights.

Philips Hue

Before you begin, you'll need both of the following:

  • Philips Hue Bridge - A separate device that is required to connect and control your Philips Hue smart bulbs with the Magic Caster Wand.
  • Philips Hue smart bulb or plug.

Once you have a compatible bulb or plug and Philips Hue Bridge, you're ready to connect your smart lights or plugs to the Magic Caster Wand mobile app. Here's how:

  1. Use the Philips Hue iOS app or Android app to connect your Philips Hue Bridge and smart light or plug to your Wi-Fi network. To learn more, go to Get started with Philips Hue.
  2. In the Magic Caster Wand mobile app, choose the Devices icon (light bulb).
  3. Choose Lights.
  4. Choose Connect Smart Lights and Plugs.
  5. Choose the smart light or plug found on your network. Or choose Set Up Manually and then choose Philips Hue.
Smart plug setup
Once connected, smart plugs need to be enabled in the app. Go to Devices > Lights and choose Philips Hue. Then, toggle the smart plug you want to enable.

Wi-Fi tip

Devices FAQ

How close should my wand be to my device?

Your wand can interact with a compatible device (smart lights, Bluetooth speakers, or a TV device) in the same room at a range of just over 30 feet.

How many devices can I connect to my wand?

You can connect any compatible device to your wand.

Only one wand at a time can be connected to the Magic Caster Wand mobile app.
